Dumezulu Ncube a male aged 60, who is the chairperson of ward 9 CLDC in Chiredzi District that was supported by DKH. In the first picture Dumezulu is addressing project members urging them to prepare for the new farming season  following delivery of seed by the LDS. Dumezulu leads a group of 300 farmers who are beneficiaries of the project, and he is endowed with strong leadership and coordination skills. His commitment to community development is unparalleled. He leads by example in the CLDC and at household level where he is a fish farmer with 3 fishponds (20m by 10m each), horticulture and small grains producer.

Dumezulu has a huge family at home to feed with 35 members and thus he has a big responsibility of food provision. Before he joined the LDS project supported by DKH, he was a subsistence farmer who grew crops during the rainy season only and relied on the government food aid program to support his huge family. Through the support of the project Dumezulu received small grains seed packs and went on to grow small grains practicing conservation farming which he had learnt at the CLDC.

Dumezulu is one of the few farmers who had a bumper harvest during the 2022/23 farming season and was able to sale 7 tons small grains. Dumezulu is one of the adopters at the CLDC and has set up a number of projects at households. Using proceeds from household projects such as horticulture, fish poultry and small grains sales, Dumezulu has been able to invest in enabling infrastructure, a solarized borehole to enhance his household irrigation. He is now a proud farmer who can grow crops all year round to feed his family and earn income for household use. His income earnings have increased from USD 50 to USD 300 per month. Dumezulu commands great respect from the community as a whole because of his leadership skills and his enterprising spirit.
