Adolescent and Young People Resilience Project

Act Church of Sweden is currently funding Thusanang Evangelical Lutheran Church in Zimbabwe Western Diocese Trust (Thusanang ELCZWD Trust) / Lutheran Development Services (/LDS) to implement Adolescent and Young People Resilience Project in Gwanda District (Matabeleland South Province) targeting ward wards 16, 17,19, and 24.from 2022 – 2024.

The project is meant to support communities, households, parents and guardians contributing towards improving Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) for Adolescent and Young People (AYP) in order to contribute towards Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3, (universal access to SRHR for AYP), SDG 4 (Ensuring inclusive and equitable quality Education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all) and SDG 5 (Achieving Gender equality and empower all women and girls).The project is expecting to reach out to a total of 2100 direct beneficiaries, of whom 450 (300 girls and young women and 150 boys and young men) are primary beneficiaries while the remainder 1 650 are secondary beneficiaries.

Project objectives

To increase knowledge and dissemination on Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), and HIV and AIDS to adolescents, young people and adults in order to achieve higher risk perceptions among adolescents and Young people and to reduce religious, cultural, and social norms among adults that increases the vulnerability of adolescents to sexual reproductive health risk

•      To economical empower Households (families), adolescents  and young people in order to reduce school dropout and harmful behaviours that increases vulnerability of adolescents to sexual reproductive health Risk

•      To improve the availability of integrated HIV and SRHR services in adolescents localities in order to increase the utilization of HIV and SRHR services

•      To strengthen SRHR policy and legislative environment that will lead to better safeguarding for adolescent and young people’s Sexual reproductive Health and Rights.
